Honest Comics About Being Single Are Relatable for Anyone Who Flies Solo

Being single can be an illuminating time for a person. After all, it’s only when we navigate the world solo that we learn who we really are. But just because the experience brings us closer to self-actualization, the very relatable truth is that singledom is not all sunshine and rainbows. Flying solo can be an exercise in frustration (especially the dating part) and downright lonely. Illustrator Landysh, one part the creative team Lingvistov, created a series of drawings that are sure to speak to anyone who is sans significant other.

Calling the comic collection 15 Things Every Single Girl Can Relate To, Landysh shares the thoughts and routines of solo ladies. More often than not, they’re in their own head about their singleness. “Please be as weird as me,” one woman silently pleads. “My boyfriend is like square root of -1, Imaginary,” another panel reads. Although these thoughts aren’t flattering, they’re surely familiar for anyone who wishes they could find a great relationship.

Despite illustrating the woes that come with singledom, Landysh does also look on the bright side. “This may be one of the only times in your life when you can do whatever you want and when you want it,” she points out. “When you get into bed, you can lie starfish-style! Stay out late and sleep in as long as you like—who’s judging? Buy the expensive bag or the overpriced shoes you love. Appreciate being young and free!”

And remember, even if you live alone, you’re probably just a few clicks away from human contact. “Just because I don’t have a boyfriend, it doesn’t mean I’m alone,” one of the comics says. “I have food and the internet.”

For those interested in purchasing a copy of these funny and very relatable illustrations, Lingvistov sells their work as prints, cards, books, and more in their online shop.
